Claim for Telephone Calls

Truck drivers who use their own mobile phone for work related purposes are able to claim a portion of their total bill provided they can prove it is used for work.

Most drivers are on either a monthly plan or use prepaid amounts. A driver can claim a portion of these monthly amounts provided they can prove what percentage was work related. This will usually be done by going through a telephone bill and itemising the business calls as a percentage of the total calls. It is not enough just to say 80% of my phone calls would be for work, therefore I will claim 80% of my monthly phone plan as a work expense. Drivers have to be able to prove to the ATO the business portion of their telephone bill.
